kru

กรุ

A sealed chamber inside a stupa or temple structure where votive tablets and valuables were enshrined, sometimes for centuries. When a kru is opened, by restoration, collapse, or treasure hunting, its contents enter the world; the most celebrated amulet types in Thailand, including most of the benjapakee, are kru finds. An amulet described as kru carries an excavation history.

Usage

The Phra Rod of Lamphun came from a kru opened during temple restoration.
