sak yant
สักยันต์
The practice of tattooing yant onto the skin, performed by monks and lay masters using a long steel or bamboo needle. Devotees hold that a correctly applied and blessed sak yant confers the protections written into the design. The practice carries its own etiquette, including annual wai khru gatherings at which masters renew the tattoos' power, and is treated at length in this site's sak yant guide.
UsageHe received his first sak yant from a lay master in the traditional hand-poked method.
