katha

An incantation or sacred formula, usually in Pali, recited in consecration, in personal practice, and in the making of sacred materials. Many amulets are issued with a specific katha the wearer recites to invoke the object's protection. The most famous is the Itipiso, the enumeration of the Buddha's virtues, chanted at consecration ceremonies across Thailand.
