phra somdej

พระสมเด็จ

The most revered amulet type in Thailand: a rectangular sacred-powder tablet bearing a seated Buddha on a tiered base, created by Somdej Toh of Wat Rakhang Kositaram, Bangkok, in the mid nineteenth century. Original examples stand at the head of the benjapakee canon, and the Thai press has reported valuations for the most famous pieces at THB 100 million (approx USD 2.8 million) and beyond, as of August 2026.

Usage

Collectors call the phra somdej the king of amulets.
