tian-chai

The victory candle used in phutthaphisek grand consecration ceremonies. Traditionally weighs eighty baht (approximately one kilogram), contains one hundred and eight braided wicks, and stands as tall as the ceremony patron. Must burn continuously throughout the ceremony.

Usage

If the tian chai goes out before the ceremony closes, the consecration is considered incomplete.
